Reaching Out for Support

Common signs it's time to reach out for support

These patterns can be hard to see in ourselves, and easy to explain away. Noticing even one of them is worth paying attention to — reaching out isn't a last resort, it's a reasonable first step.

  • Increased secrecy or isolation, hiding use or lying about behavior
  • Loss of interest in activities that used to bring joy or fulfillment
  • Neglecting responsibilities at work, school, or home due to use or related behaviors
  • Relationship strain with family, friends, or partners due to addiction-related behaviors
  • Struggling to stop or cut back despite repeated efforts to quit or reduce use
  • Using substances or behaviors as a way to cope with stress, anxiety, or emotional pain
  • Withdrawal symptoms (physical or emotional) when trying to stop

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Have questions? We've got answers.

How do I choose the right therapist?

We offer a quick online Therapist Matching Quiz where you can answer a few questions and receive personalized recommendations for therapists tailored to your identity, preferences, and needs.

Do I need a referral to see a therapist?

No referral is needed to book a therapy or counselling session at CWCP. You can contact us directly or book online. No doctor's note required. If you have extended health benefits, you will want to confirm whether a physician's note is required by your insurer for the purpose of benefits coverage.

Are therapy sessions covered by insurance?

Most extended health benefit plans cover therapy with a registered psychotherapist or a registered social worker. Check with your provider to confirm whether your coverage includes a provincially registered psychotherapist, registered psychologist, or registered social worker (RSW only or MSW / RSW).

How long are therapy sessions?

Individual sessions can be 50- or 80-minutes in duration. Relationship sessions are typically 80-minutes in duration. Family therapy is typically 110-minutes in duration.

Are your clinicians queer-informed / 2SLGBTQIA+ affirming?

Yes. CWCP is proud to offer 2SLGBTQIA+-affirming care. Many of our clinicians have lived experience or specific training in queer-informed, gender-affirming, and anti-oppressive approaches. We strive to create a safe, inclusive, and non-judgmental space where all identities are honoured and celebrated.

Interested in working with queer-informed clinicians? Visit our queer-informed therapists page.

Is online therapy available?

Yes, CWCP offers virtual therapy sessions via a secure telehealth platform. Online therapy is a flexible option for clients who prefer to receive care from the comfort of their home.

What should I expect during my first therapy session?

Your first session can take anywhere between 50 - 80 minutes. During this session, you and your clinician will discuss your presenting concerns (i.e., why have you reached out for counselling services), your background (e.g., family, medical, social, etc.), gain a general understanding of what you seek from counselling, and identify how our services might support your process. You and your clinician will decide on the frequency of meetings.

Is your clinic wheelchair accessible?

Yes. CWCP is fully accessible for individuals with a range of mobility needs. Our clinic is located on the second floor of 491 Church Street and can be accessed through a street-level, graded entrance with double doors, one equipped with a push-button opener leading directly to an elevator.

We offer mobility-accessible, all-gender restrooms and treatment rooms designed to ensure a safe and inclusive experience for all clients.

If you have specific accessibility needs, please contact us in advance. We're happy to discuss how we can best support your mobility needs.
