Understanding and Supporting Your Relationship, Your Way

At Church Wellesley Counselling and Psychotherapy, we honour all forms of love, connection, and chosen family structures. Whether you're practicing polyamory, non-monogamy, or you're curious about what non-monogamy could look like for you, we’re here to support you with care and without judgment.

What Is Non-Monogamy?

Non-monogamy refers to any relationship structure that allows for more than one romantic or sexual partner, with the knowledge and consent of everyone involved. This can include:

  • Open relationships

  • Polyamory

  • Swinging

What We Can Support You With

We understand that therapy doesn’t always acknowledge or affirm these identities. That’s why we’re intentional about creating a space where you don’t have to educate your therapist.

Our clinicians are trained and experienced in working with clients navigating:

  • Challenges with family, stigma, and societal misunderstanding

  • Differentiating between individual and shared needs

  • Identity development and fluidity within non-monogamous lifestyles

  • Relationship transitions or opening up a monogamous relationship

Individual Counselling and Psychotherapy

In individual therapy, the focus is on your personal experience. It’s a space where you can explore how you relate to others, process emotions, clarify your values and boundaries, and build the skills you need for healthier relationships, regardless of whether your partners attend therapy with you.

Relationship Counselling

Relationship counselling involves two or more partners attending therapy together to work on issues within the relationship(s). The therapist holds space for each person and helps the group navigate communication breakdowns, power dynamics, emotional needs, and shared goals.

During this session, you and your clinician will discuss your presenting concerns (i.e., why have you reached out for counselling services), your background (e.g., family, medical, social, etc.), gain a general understanding of what you seek from counselling, and identify how our services might support your process. You and your clinician will decide on the frequency of meetings.
