What is Self-Harm?
Self-harm refers to intentionally causing injury to oneself, often as a way to manage intense emotions, feel a sense of control, or express internal pain. It’s more common than many realize, and it’s not about “attention-seeking”. It’s about needing relief.
Self-harm can take many forms including:
-
Cutting, burning, or hitting oneself
-
Interfering with wound healing
-
Hair-pulling or scratching
-
Substance misuse or risky behavior

During this session, you and your clinician will discuss your presenting concerns (i.e., why have you reached out for counselling services), your background (e.g., family, medical, social, etc.), gain a general understanding of what you seek from counselling, and identify how our services might support your process. You and your clinician will decide on the frequency of meetings.
